NACUA Webinar Hosted by Bond: Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah! Hello Lawyah? Managing Camp Risks and Liability

Bond, with more than 30 members of NACUA (National Association of College and University Attorneys), is hosting NACUA’s webinar, “Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah! Hello Lawyah? Managing Camp Risks and Liability,” in several of our offices.

Bond, Schoeneck & King will host the webinar at a few of our offices around the state. We invite you to attend as a complimentary guest of the firm. The seminar will start at noon and run until 2 p.m. There will be a discussion period after and we hope you will be able to stay for some informal conversation with Bond attorneys in our hosting offices.

We will have sandwiches and light refreshments. Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. Please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to attend, and at which office, so that we can accommodate you.

Colleges, universities and independent schools commonly sponsor camps for youth, especially during the summer months, including sports camps, computer camps, theater camps and more. Institutions also commonly lease their facilities to outside groups for those organizations to run their own camps. In either circumstance, camps offer many benefits but also create institutional risk and liability.

This webinar will take you through time, from before a camp even exists until after the last camper departs, in each moment exploring legal and operational considerations that institutions should contemplate as they prepare for and administer camps.

Topics will include:

• Before You Start a Camp: state law requirements, agreements with third parties, risk transfer and indemnification, reputational risks
• Before the Campers Arrive: background checks, training, policies and procedures, forms and waivers
• The Campers Arrive: emergency response protocol, staff supervision, camper misconduct, and medical management
• Camp Ends: returning children to parents, statutes of limitations, records retention, post-camp evaluations

It is a two hour program on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 and CLE credit may be available through NACUA.

This webinar will be of interest to college, university and independent school employees, both inside and outside of the General Counsel’s office, who interface with campers or camp staff. It may be of particular interest to risk managers, athletics department staff who work with sports’ camps, academic or student affairs staff who work with academic camps or host extracurricular programs for minors, and conference and visitor services staff.
